Music and English lyrics by Daniel L. Schutte, 1981
5. Mise rí de tine is gaoth,
I, the Lord of wind and flame,
Curfá (suas)
Chorus (above)
Courtesy of Jack and Vivian Hennessey,
1. Mise rí gach ní fén spéir,
Chuala Mé mo dhaoine ag ghlaoch.
Cách atá i bpeaca trom,
Slánóidh mé iad.
I, the Lord of sea and sky,
I have heard my people cry.
All who dwell in dark and sin,
My hand will save.
2. Chrochaigh Mé gach réalt sa spéir,
Gealfhaidh Mé an dorchadas.
Cé bhéarfaidh mo sholas dóibh?
Cé chuirfidh Mé?
I, who made the stars of night,
I will make their darkness bright.
Who will bear my light to them?
Whom shall I send?
Curfá
A Thiarna, Chugat mé. Bhfuilim Uait-se?
Chuala mé Do ghlaoch i rith mo luí
Rachaidh mé Leat, má threoraíonn Tú
Cuimhneóidh mé Do phobal le mo chroí
Chorus
Here am I, Lord. Is it I, Lord?
I have heard you calling in the night.
I will go, Lord, if you lead me.
I will hold your people in my heart.
3. Mise rí na haimsire,
D'iompar mé an phian do chách.
Shil Mé deora le ghrá dóibh,
Iompaíonn siad Uaim.
I, the Lord of snow and rain,
I have borne my people’s pain.
I have wept for love of them.
They turn away.
4. Léathfaidh Mé a gcróithe cruaidh,
Líonfeadh iad le Mo ghrá.
Labharfaidh Mé Mo bhriathar leo.
Cé cuirfidh Mé?
I will break their hearts of stone,
Give them hearts for love alone.
I will speak my words to them.
Whom shall I send?
Curfá (suas)
Cuirfidh mé daoine bacach is bocht.
Deanfaidh mé feasta dóibh.
Slánóidh mé iad.
Chorus (above)
I will send the poor and lame.
I will set a feast for them.
My hand will save.
6. Arán is fearr cuirfaidh mé ar fáil
Go dtí go bheidh a gcroithe sásta
Tabharfaidh mé mo shaol dóibh.
Cé chuirfidh Mé?
Finest bread I will provide,
'Til their hearts be satisfied.
I will give my life to them.
Whom shall I send?
The reference is Isaiah 6:8: "Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying,
"Whom shall I send? And who will go for us?" And I said, "Here am I.
Send me!" This is from the New International Version. Verses 9 & 10 are
quoted in Matthew 13:11-15; Luke 8:9 & 10; Mark 4:12; Acts 28:25-27. The
entire sixth chapter of Isaiah is worth reading over and over again for
inspiration and instruction.
