Seamus Ó Crofton - James Crofton

The Crofton Crest
The Crofton Family Crest

James Crofton was the third son of Edward Crofton, a kinsman of Sir Edward Crofton of Mote and head of the Sligo branch of the family. The Sligo Croftons were Catholics, and their estate, known as Longford House, was situated on the northerly slope of the Ox Mountains, a few miles west of Ballysdare. James fell in love with Elizabeth, daughter of Edward Robinson, of Sligo. Each father was opposed to the match. At last James became Protestant, obtained the family estates and married Elizabeth Robinson.
