As na duibheagáin - Out of the depths
130ú Salm - 130th Psalm
 Christ lifting up the sinner who has hit rock bottom
Matt Talbot rose from the depths of addiction in the poverty stricken docks of Dublin
where he worked from age 12 to 28, only to live a life of heroic sanctity thereafter.
He came to personify the man sung of in the words of this psalm. In 1975 he was named Venerable by the church.
Rest mouse on shamrock to reveal phonetics
s na duibheagáin a ghlaoim ort,
a Thiarna; éist, a Thiarna,
le mo ghuí.
|
Out of the depths I cry unto you, O Lord,
Lord hear my voice
|
2. Go n-éiste do chluasa go haireach
le mo ghlór ag impí ort.
|
Let your ears be attentive to
my voice in supplication.
|
3. Má fhéachann tú ár gcionta, a Thiarna,
a Thiarna, cé rachaidh slán?
|
If you, O Lord, mark iniquities
Lord, who can stand?
| |
4. Ach is leat na peacaí a mhaitheamh;
ionas go riarfaí go humhal duit.
|
But with you is forgiveness
that you may be revered.
| |
5. Tá muinín ag m’anam as an Tiarna;
ar a bhriathar atá mo sheasamh.
|
I trust in the Lord;
my soul trusts in his word
| |
6. Is foighní m’anam ag feitheamh leis an Tiarna,
ná lucht faire leis an maidin.
Bíonn lucht faire ag faire leis an maidin,
|
My soul waits for the Lord
more than sentinels wait for the dawn,
More than sentinels wait for the dawn,
| |
7. agus Iosrael leis an Tiarna,
de bhrí gur ag an Tiarna atá an trócaire,
agus an fhuascailt fhairsing.
|
let Israel wait for the Lord.
For with the Lord is kindness
and with him is plenteous redemption;
|
8. Agus is é a dhéanfaidh Iosrael
a fhuascailt óna gcionta go léir.
|
And he will redeem Israel
from all their iniquities.
